The Apple AirPower was first announced by the Cupertino tech giant in 2018. It is Apple's unreleased wireless charging mat intended to charge up to three Qi devices like the Apple Watch, AirPods, and iPhones. While Apple has not yet said anything about the wireless charging mat, a new report claims that it is still alive and could be in production.

Last year, Apple said that the prototypes of AirPower could not meet the high standards of the company. And, everybody assumed that the wireless charging mat is already dead. But, if the recent claims are to be believed, it looks like Apple has revived the project and could release the product soon.

On the social networking site Twitter, reputable tipster Jon Prosser indirectly stated that the Cupertino tech titan is trying to re-engineer the AirPower from the ground up. At present, it reportedly concentrates on the wireless coils of the charging mat that would effectively displace more heat. The tipster also revealed on the thread that none of the current prototypes Apple is reportedly working on support the Apple Watch, which could be one of the major challenges the company is facing and the reason why it could not release the wireless charging mat yet.

Apart from this, it looks like Apple also has a headache with the overheating issue of the AirPower. According to reports, Apple uses between 21 and 24 power coils of various sizes to build the necessary accessory for charging. Additionally, Apple has to design these coils in a way that they do not interfere with each other and overheat.

Earlier, TFI Securities Analyst and reputable Apple tipster Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the Cupertino tech giant would launch some hardware in the first half of 2020. He mentioned that it could include a smaller wireless charging mat, which could be the Apple AirPower that Prosser is talking about. Unfortunately, Kuo did not reveal the details of the wireless charging mat, and while he predicted about the release window, it might not be accurate considering the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jon Prosser has a good track record when it comes to leaks. He was responsible for accurate Google leaks before. He was also responsible for leaking that Apple would unveil an upgraded iPad Pro lineup with A14X Bionic chip later this year. Meanwhile, it is worth noting that while these details about the Apple AirPower seem interesting, these are not official yet. In this case, take this information with a good measure of skepticism.
