Harry Kane of Tottenham continues to recover from a hamstring injury he suffered back in January and was expected to return this April. The long wait is because the 26-year-old underwent surgery but it appears he is likely to be at full health if and when football season does resume.
Even before the coronavirus pandemic, Kane was reportedly ahead of schedule in recovery. But with football in the UK suspended until Apr. 30, the Spurs star could get even more time to rest and nurse himself to full health.
“I’m good. From a rehab point of view and personal point of view, I’m doing really well. I’m at a good stage now and just working hard, doing a lot of recovery, a lot of rehab and just waiting to see what happens to the season,” Kane said via the team's official website.
A potential Kane return would be a much-welcome reprieve for Jose Mourinho who is short of strikers. Also out due to injury are Son Heung-Min (broken arm) and Steven Bergwijn (ankle). Of the two, Bergwijn is another player who could return once action resumes. He seems to be recovering well from injury, showing he can walk but still with some help from a walking boot.
Before injury struck, Kane was doing well for Tottenham. He already amassed a total of 17 goals but his absence sorely affected the Spurs. Tottenham has fallen into eighth in the table but an eventual return could boost the chances of the team moving forward. They are four points behind Manchester United as of this writing. With Captain Kane out, the Spurs were booted out of the FA Cup and the Champions League. Mourinho hopes that if some of his attackers return, they can still salvage something.
With Kane out of action, he was recently the subject of transfer talk. Among the teams linked to 26-year-old striker include Manchester United and Juventus. And while both teams could offer Kane a handsome salary, it appears that these transfer talks remain nothing more but rumors.
Tottenham legend Gary Lineker weighed in on the possibility of seeing Kane move out and said he was not convinced it would happen. He branded these claims as lacking credibility and people making these claims do not have an actual clue on what Kane plans to do. Also, the striker seems pretty much content and happy with his current team, further making transfer claims unreliable.
