The recent episode of Homeland season 8, titled "Therondy(s)," delivered an unexpected event, leaving viewers shocked. The episode ended up bringing a lot of death, including the execution of Haqqani. His death felt inevitable due to where he was, as well as the things happening with him. But apart from Haqqani's death, one of the essential characters also met his ultimate demise in the previous episode.
Many were hoping Max will stick around in Homeland season 8 since this would be the series' final run -- but that may not happen now. Viewers wanted to believe that Carrie could somehow find a way to rescue and save him, but that didn't happen at all. Max died in the episode, which only means that Maury Sterling is done portraying the character.
Losing Max is really tough, considering that he's been around since the beginning. His presence also means a lot to Carrie, so she may likely have a hard time moving forward because of what happened. After his death, Carrie also admitted that she took him for granted and it's apparent that she has a lot of regrets. Max was always around, but Carrie never showed enough appreciation for him.
Max always makes sure that there should be results in almost every situation, but he collaborated with the people who didn't acknowledge or celebrate his presence. He died after being shot and it was too late for Carrie to realize how much Max means to her. The previous episode was an emotional one, as Carrie finally understands that Max stays by her side everywhere she goes.
Although Max's death was a shocking twist, the episode also delivered other big moments. For instance, Jalal Haqqani is willing to do whatever she can just to proclaim himself as the new leader. It also looks like he's the one responsible for what happened to the President of Afghanistan and President Warner. Also, the United States government got the wrong Haqqani, making the situation even more dangerous.
As for what's next in Homeland season 8, the upcoming episode will see Carrie going shopping. Perhaps, her action may have something to do with finding solutions, like establishing her legacy, clearing her name, as well as protecting the people she loves. Carrie has been tested and tormented this season, but she could somehow find a way to come out clean at some point.
