Barcelona legend Xavi has called on the club board to continue building the Spanish giants' strike force, which can be done immediately by hiring the best forwards available. The first on the list has to be Neymar then Camp Nou must seriously consider making a bid on Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

For Barcelona to boost the team's attacking capability, Xavi said the board has to spend big and in that respect, Neymar "would be a spectacular signing."

The Paris Saint-Germain star has been the target of Barca's hiring team and reports said the goalscorer has been made a priority signing in the summer. Team captain Lionel Messi has been vocal on his wish of playing with the Brazilian striker again and speculations are rife that Neymar could be headed back to Spain soon.

"I would sign wingers. Players like Neymar - I don't know if he would fit because of the social aspect, in a football sense I have no doubts he would be a spectacular signing," Metro reported Xavi as saying.

The Barca hero also nominated Sancho, the 19-year-old sensation that Premier League clubs - Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool - have been wanting to sign.

"They just need wingers like Bayern [Munich] ... They don't need many new players - maybe Jadon Sancho [and] Serge Gnabry," said Xavi, adding that while his former team has a solid midfield roster, the winger could use a good upgrade.

He also made clear that while Camp Nou needs to do a mini-rebuild, as suggested in recent reports, the club boasts of core players "who could succeed at Barcelona for 10 years ... The foundation is good."

Xavi exited Barcelona in 2015 and he was supposed to return as team manager in January but the report said, the Spanish opted out due to specific terms of employment, which purportedly will not give full management control of the Nou dugout.

However, if a new offer is presented before him and the conditions set are acceptable, Xavi said he would be happy to take over from Quique Setien.

"I am clear that I want to return to Barcelona, it gives me a lot of excitement ... Now that I have seen myself coaching I think I can bring things to the players," Talk Sport reported the former midfielder as saying.

Working with Barca again would mean that Xavi will demand a clean start and that he alone will call the shot.

"I would like to work with people I trust, with very valid people there is mutual loyalty ... There can't be anyone toxic around the dressing room," said the club legend.
