Melania Trump did it again! The First Lady of the United States contradicted her husband, President Donald Trump, statement about wearing a face mask.
Melania urged all Americans in her latest tweets to protect themselves from the coronavirus by wearing a face mask when out in public places. Along with a video was a tweet of her photo in which her face covered partly by a mask.
"As the C.D.C. continues to study the spread of the COVID-19, they're recommending people wear cloth face coverings in public settings where social distancing measures can be difficult to maintain," the 49-year-old-old mother-of-one said along with video conveying the CDC guideline.
Melania's posts gained attention because it directly contradicts Trump's earlier statement on the matter. In his recent televised COVID-19 press briefing, Trump offered his own interpretation of the CDC rules. POTUS said he would not be interested in wearing a mask unless he thinks it important.
"I think wearing a face mask...I don't know. Somehow, I don't see it for myself," he said.
It doesn't mean, however, that the president is not concerned at all that he might contract the virus. In fact, The New York Times quoted White House officials as saying everyone who comes into close contact with POTUS must have to be tested for the virus first. The directive includes journalists covering events at the White House.
Mrs. Trump's latest tweets that countered her husband's statement did not, however, come as a surprise to many as she had done it in the past. Back in August 2017, Melania condemned the deadly white nationalist march in Charlottesville, Virginia. Trump, on the other hand, was slammed for saying the blame for that rally that turned violent should lay on the people on "both sides."
Moreover, Melania's BeBest campaign promotes healthy online lifestyles and the prevention of online bullying. It is in contrast to Trump's habit of mocking the Democrats and his critics on Twitter.
In December, Melania remained mum when Trump mocked climate activist Greta Thunberg. Instead, Stephanie Grisham, the White House press secretary at the time, said the first couple "often communicate differently" as other couples do.
Meanwhile, the latest tweet from Mrs. Trump about how Americans can avoid contracting the deadly virus was just one of her public service messages about coronavirus. Melania was earlier featured in two PSAs to put a stress on the government's public health guidelines on social distancing and hand washing.
