After the monarchy faced Prince Andrew's scandal and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's departure, a lot of people believe Queen Elizabeth II is experiencing her second annus horribilis. Coronavirus outbreak then began in the United Kingdom, and many are concerned for their lives. But as some think that the monarchy will fail, Amanda Platell said it manages not just to survive but thrive. Sadly, the Sussexes play an irrelevant role in this.
In an article that the 62-year-old journalist wrote for Daily Mail, she revealed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's so-called Megxit was believed to be "the worst existential crisis since the abdication." Their decision to leave their royal duties and determination to make millions from their royal status was seen as "cataclysmic."
As the royal family is now busy handling the coronavirus outbreak in the U.K., she added that the fight over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is now on a different age before the pandemic. She believed that the couple is "utterly irrelevant" to the now slimmed-down monarchy, which becomes as "healthy and important" as ever.
She then praised the monarchy's efforts to fight the virus. First, Prince Charles managed to survive the disease and spoke to the public with "humility and compassion." Clarence House even released their 15th wedding anniversary photograph, showing their happy faces and how at ease they are with each other, just like how the country become with them.
Buckingham Palace also released Queen Elizabeth's working-from-home photo while talking to Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Later, she addressed the nation, using wartime as her references and acknowledging the sacrifices everyone is making in this time of crisis. She also remained optimistic when she used Vera Lynn line, "We'll meet again," which seemed to be a perfect phrase to say today.
Despite the Government's order to stay at home, Prince William and Kate Middleton are still busy at work, doing FaceTime video chats and phone calls to show their support to mental health charities. With their continuous actions, Platell knew that they all perfectly know their role in this challenging time.
"Politicians may come and go, but the one constant is our Royal Family," Platell said. They are the symbol of "continuity, embodying common sense of purpose, and what it means to be British." In times like this, Platell than God for having the royal family.
Fox News added that the royal family is doing everything it could to assure the public's safety, while also making sure of their own welfare. Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and the rest of the family are now self-isolating and practicing social distancing to avoid the spread of coronavirus. Also, following the Government and Medical Household's advice, several public events and royal engagements are now canceled and postponed to avoid big gatherings.
