One of the best episodes of The Mandalorian has been its season finale which gave the first season an epic conclusion with just enough crumbs to leave fans hoping for more. Not surprisingly, Chapter 8: Redemption was directed by Taika Waititi and people believe that the New Zealand filmmaker might be the kind of fresh creativity that the Star Wars Universe needs right now. So did the Thor: Ragnarok director actually work on new episodes for The Mandalorian Season 2? Waititi has just commented on doing more work for the Disney+ series.

There is little doubt that Taika Waititi was a huge part of the first season of The Mandalorian. In addition to directing the season finale that perfectly wrapped things up, the Jojo Rabbit director also provided the voice of IG-11, the droid that initially helped Din Djarin procure Baby Yoda in the premiere episode. With that in mind, people believe that Waititi should keep working on the Star Wars series in Season 2. However, it looks like fans will be greatly disappointed if they were hoping for more of the Thor: Love and Thunder director in the second season.

Taika Waititi recently hosted an online watch party of his film Thor: Ragnarok where he interacted with fans and answered several questions. Not surprisingly, someone wanted to know if the filmmaker worked on any of the upcoming episodes of The Mandalorian Season 2 before production was shut down due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Sadly, Waititi only had bad news. He revealed that he was unable to commit once again to the Disney+ show because of scheduling conflicts with an upcoming project titled Next Goal Wins.

But what are the chances that Taika Waititi might still be involved in The Mandalorian Season 2? Some believe that there is a chance that he could continue to provide the voice of IG-11 in the next season. Unfortunately, the droid has been destroyed in the season finale as it sacrificed itself to help Din Djarin and company escape the forces of Moff Gideon. Perhaps the only way that Waititi could return is to play a completely different character.

For now, it seems unlikely that Taika Waititi will be involved in The Mandalorian Season 2. However, people are still hoping that things will change after the COVID-19 lockdowns are lifted.

The Mandalorian Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date by Disney+. Nevertheless, the show is expected to return on the streaming service in October.
