Leroy Sane has been sidelined for quite some time now and the time off may have given him the chance to assess his future. Like any player, the 24-year-old footballer wants to win a Champions League title but sticking with Manchester City may not help him accomplish that dream. Hence, moving to another team could give him better chances and it appears that is happening soon.
According to Sane's manager, Damir Smoljan, several teams have been in touch and are seriously pursuing the Geman winger. It should be noted that Sane is coming off a serious knee injury. Regardless, this has not turned off other teams and teams like Bayern Munich are keen on trying to pluck him away from City.
“Together with him, we talk with Manchester City about what the next step could look like. The interest of Bayern Munich is no secret. But other absolute top clubs also contacted us about Leroy,” Sane's rep told Bild.
The rekindled interest of Bayern is a bit suspicious considering they had their chance last year. The Bundles Liga champions could have snagged Sane and take on his $109 million deal. However, his recent injury could convince City to give him up at a much lower price, something Hans-Dieter Flick may be hoping for. The same goes with other unnamed teams in hot pursuit of Sane.
But the main reason for Sane wanting to move to Bayern is the chance to fulfill his dream of being a Champions League champion. He will not get that with City since the Sky Blues are facing a two-year ban after breaching Financial Fair Play rules. Though that is under appeal, Sane wants to make sure.
“Bayern is the only club in Germany that Leroy can imagine as the next step in his career. He sees there the requirements for achieving his big goal of winning the Champions League,” his agent said.
It may only be a matter of time before Bayern and Sane's camp can iron out details and strike a deal, The Mirror reported. The Bavarians are reportedly offering £70million for Sane, half the amount of what City wanted for the German footballer last year.
With football action still suspended, it will be interesting if the Sane move to Bayern will be finalized soon. Some deals have been made but making them official is another matter. Most are holed up at home for their protection as efforts to contain the COVID-19 virus continues in the global stage.
