Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were planning to make Archie's first birthday party their "Welcome to Los Angeles" bash as well. The twin events were supposed to be filled with celebrities but the Sussexes ended up canceling the celebration because of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to reports, Prince Harry and Meghan were planning to invite the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Serena Williams, Elton John, James Corden, and George and Amal Clooney to party with them. Instead, the big bash set for May 6 will have just the three of them as the Duchess of Sussex does not want to risk having a health crisis.
Prince Harry and Meghan also want to follow the guidelines set by the governor of Los Angeles, which banned parties and gatherings to prevent the spread of the virus. A source revealed that the Sussexes will plan the big bash for some other time as they have other events lined up once the pandemic is over.
It's also unclear if the Sussexes would be able to fly to Scotland to spend the summer with Queen Elizabeth and also celebrate Archie's birthday with the royal family. Earlier, Prince Harry and Meghan were, reportedly, planning to bring their son to the Queen's summer home but this was set before U.K. announced the lockdown. As of April 16, the government announced that it is extending the said lockdown until the middle of May as the number of positive cases continue to rise.
It will be Archie's first time in Balmoral if Prince Harry, Meghan and Archie would be able to fly back to the other side of the pond. It will also be the first time since Archie will see his great-grandparents after leaving London in November 2019.
According to Us Weekly, Queen Elizabeth has prepared a gift for Archie long before their planned summer hideaway. Her Majesty has a "beautiful rocking horse" for her grandchild, per Us Weekly.
Sources said that the Queen is eager to bond with the Sussex baby. She was apparently heartbroken over the fact that Prince Harry and Meghan decided to live for half of their time in the United States.
Archie was born on May 6, 2019 in London. Shortly after, Prince Harry revealed that Meghan struggled with the media scrutiny, especially after the birth of their son. This prompted the Duke of Sussex to file cases against the British tabloid press and by January, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed that they will step back from their royal duties to live private lives.
