Donald Trump has been regularly seen these days through the daily White House briefings due to the COVID-19 crisis in the United States. It is now the epicenter of the pandemic, which has already affected more than 2.6 million individuals all over the globe.
Unfortunately, the cases in the United States account for almost 32% of the total number. Based on the most recent data, over 829,000 cases have been tallied with a total of 46,149 deaths.
According to CNN, the briefings from the White House have been very informative in sharing how the government responds to the pandemic crisis. While it is a platform where Donald Trump addresses the American public, it was said that it has also become a "political tool" for the American leader.
Political analyst for the publication, Joe Lockhart said that the incumbent President uses the daily briefings to either "take credit" or "shift away" the blame. He also pointed out that recent events, including mainly the concerns over the reopening of the country, "who calls the shots," and the protestors, have become a "revealing" dynamic of his strategy for the 2020 Presidential Election.
Several protestors have been seen recently across the states. Despite the strict implementation of the social distancing guidelines, the demonstrations continued as they call out to get back to their normal lives.
Instead of advising them to stay at home amid the crisis, Donald Trump, reportedly, "empathized" with them and shared that he understands their pain. This response was said to be a very clever strategy of the incumbent President "to get reelected."
His empathy, reportedly, gives him the "maximum flexibility" to get credit as he "understands" the public's pain. In the same manner, his response also gives him the "maximum ability to deflect" if things go south.
Joe Lockhart continued to share that this is only a part of the overall "brilliant" strategy that Donald Trump has for the elections. He then went on to point out the recent "change in tune" of the President's statements.
Earlier this month, Trump stated that, being the President, he has the total "authority." However, this immediately shifted when he said that the State Governors will be calling the shots in terms of reopening the economy.
It is "brilliant in its simplicity," the political analyst said. The reason being is that he gives the total responsibility to the Governors.
So, when they reopen too soon, and the COVID-19 cases worsen, they will be the ones to answer for it. Likewise, when the reopen too late, and the economy continues to suffer, they will also become the responsible ones behind it.
