There is a good reason why people left the theaters with broken hearts after watching Avengers: Endgame. The Marvel Cinematic Universe flick featured the ultimate sacrifice and death of Tony Stark, which effectively ended his career as Iron Man. However, it looks like fans haven't seen the last of Robert Downey Jr. just yet. The Dolittle star may have teased on his possible return in a new MCU film.

It's no secret that fans have been hoping for Iron Man 4 for a long time now. Although Tony Stark was one of the major players in films like Captain America: Civil War and the last two Avengers movies, people are still expecting Iron Man to get a fourth standalone flick that would focus on the character. Sadly, the possibility has been bleak after Tony was killed off in Avengers: Endgame. Nevertheless, it appears that Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo Brothers might not let that little detail stop them from bringing Iron Man back.

The Russo Brothers recently hosted an online viewing party of Avengers: Endgame and the directors were joined by Robert Downey Jr. At one point, Joe and Anthony Russo commented that they would like to continue working with Marvel Studios on yet another major project. Interestingly, Downey offered his own opinion, claiming that Iron Man's return would be up to Marvel fans. "The people will move us towards what they want," he told the Russos.

This is an interesting comment considering that Robert Downey Jr. has been rather vocal about wanting to continue working on more Marvel Cinematic Universe flicks. In one interview, the Avengers: Infinity War actor stated that he is open to the option of returning as Tony Stark in the MCU. However, he later took his comment back after he was chastised by his wife.

So does this mean fans can look forward to Iron Man 4? For now, Marvel Studios has not yet made an official announcement about Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it wouldn't be a huge surprise if Tony is brought back in a flashback in one of the upcoming MCU movies.

It was previously reported that Iron Man would return in Thor: Love and Thunder as revealed in a script that was written by director Taika Waititi. In the screenplay, Tony Stark is somehow resurrected and reunited with the God of Thunder. However, it has since been revealed that Waititi's script was a fake.
