Meghan Markle joined the Royal Family upon marrying Prince Harry in 2018. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex quickly became two of the most popular members of the royal clan.
While it seemed like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were doing well as senior royals, the couple shocked everyone earlier this year when they announced that they wished to step down from their roles. Many believed that one of the key reasons for their withdrawal is their love-hate relationship with the media.
In fact, Meghan Markle sued British publisher Associated Newspapers over five articles published in the Mail on Sunday and three on the MailOnline in February 2019. The British tabloid published the Duchess of Sussex’s 2018 letter to her estranged father Thomas Markle Senior, which she claimed is a privacy breach
Unfortunately for Meghan Markle, she lost her first High Court Battle against the publisher of the Mail on Sunday.
"Today's ruling makes very clear that the core elements of this case do not change and will continue to move forward,” a spokesperson for Schillings, who is acting on behalf of Meghan Markle, said. "Whilst the Judge recognizes that there is a claim for breach of privacy and copyright, we are surprised to see that his ruling suggests that dishonest behavior is not relevant. We feel honesty and integrity are at the core of what matters; or as it relates to the Mail on Sunday and Associated Newspapers, their lack of thereof. Nonetheless, we respect the Judge's decision as the strong case against Associated will continue to focus on the issue of a private, intimate, and hand-written letter from a daughter to her father that was published by the Mail on Sunday."
It is believed that Meghan Markle has not spoken directly to her father since May 2018. But since they are related by blood, many are still hoping for the father-daughter duo to reconcile.
However, a royal expert previously said that Meghan Markle and her father fixing their relationship is far from happening. Leslie Carroll claimed that Thomas Markle broke his daughter’s trust after he leaked private letters to the media.
“Sadly, Thomas Markle made his bed when he violated his daughter’s privacy by releasing Meghan’s correspondence to the press and continuing to savagely badmouth her in public for the sake of clickbait and some press of his own,” she said. “Prior to her marriage into the royal family, his posing for paparazzi in an effort to appear erudite was clearly a misfire. He has been speaking with forked tongue ever since, publicly trashing his daughter with one side of his mouth, while claiming to love her and wish to reconcile with the other.“
