Donald Trump and Melania Trump visited the United Kingdom twice in 2019. The most recent one was in December when they attended the 30th NATO Summit.

But, while their visits last year were a hit to several reporters and publications, it was their first visit to the UK in 2018 that became widely celebrated.

In the summer of the said year, the First Couple spent four days in the European area. It was also their longest stay in the country as they spent about four days, from July 12 to July 15.

During their stay, they met with Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Theresa May. To mark their first encounters, Donald Trump and Melania Trump brought gifts for the British Monarch.

As per Town & Country, the gift-giving that happened between the US President and the British Monarch was a "delicate" and "highly choreographed affair." It reportedly involved consultations with the State Department and comprehension of protocols.

Aside from giving a "personal" gift, it should also be "symbolic," or a "nod" to the US and UK's "shared history." This is why a good bottle of wine would not suffice, as per the publication.

Donald Trump and Melania Trump gave Queen Elizabeth II a "silver and silk" poppy brooch from Tiffany & Co., in a "custom wood" red leather, custom wood White House jewelry box. As noted, the brooch is likened to the $650-Elsa Peretti sterling silver and red brooch named, Amapola, which means "poppy" in Spanish.

The publication continued to share that the poppy is a "symbol of remembrance." However, it is likely that Donald Trump and Melania Trump chose the specific brooch to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Aside from the jewelry piece, the US President and First Lady also brought gifts for the Queen's husband, Prince Philip. Although he had already retired upon their visit, they still went on to extend their gift-giving to the retired senior royal.

The gifts included the "personalized" Air Force One jacket. Also, they gave him a "signed autobiography" of James Doolittle titled, I Could Never Be So Lucky Again.

The Daily Mail added that Stephani Grisham revealed that Donald Trump's wife, Melania, was "very involved" in choosing the gifts for the royal couple. To return the favor, Queen Elizabeth II also reportedly prepared and gave gifts to the First Couple.

For the US President, the British Monarch gave him the "first edition copy" of Winston Churchill's piece, The Second World War. She also complemented the gift with a three-piece Duofold pen set.

As for Melania Trump, the senior royal reportedly gave her a silver box featuring rose, thistle, and shamrock images likened to the ceiling pattern of the Buckingham Palace's music room. It also comes with a "handcrafted enamel lid," as per claims.
