Queen Elizabeth II is the only member of the British Royal Family who has the capacity and right to give royal titles. In her 68 years of reign, she has reportedly given several titles to family members.

While many would certainly be glad to accept royal titles from the Queen, some royals reportedly declined due to personal reasons. Quite shockingly, two of her children are included.

Princess Anne is the only daughter of the British Monarch and her husband, Prince Philip. While she accepted and received the "Princess Royal" title, she reportedly declined to accept her mother's offer to give royal titles to her kids, now-Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips.

She and her husband, Mark Phillips, reportedly wanted to give their children a normal life and childhood. This also makes total sense since the Princess Royal's husband also reportedly rejected Queen Elizabeth II's Earldom offer. But, as for the reason behind, this has never been disclosed with the public, according to Express UK.

Aside from her only daughter, the Queen's youngest son, Prince Edward, also did the same thing as his sister. He reportedly declined the Queen's Dukedom offer, which is normally given to male heirs of the British Monarch.

The reason being is that he always wanted to have the "Wessex" title, as he reportedly loves the "Lord Wessex" character from the film, Shakespeare In Love. In return, Queen Elizabeth II "humored" him by giving him the title, Earl of Wessex. Accordingly, his wife then became Sophie, the Countess of Wessex.

In more recent times, there are also modern royals who rejected titles given by the Queen. As reported, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry "declined" the use of the HRH styles despite the Queen's decision for them to retain it.

This just recently happened when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior members of the British Royal Family. While they seemingly rejected the use of the HRH style, the British Monarch reportedly "stripped" them off of their titles, including their references as "royals." This is also the reason why they can no longer use "Sussex Royal."

In relation to stripping down of titles, there is also another royal who had to "relinquish" his royal titles, as per Business Insider. As stated, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, had to renounce his "inborn royal titles" as the Prince of Denmark and Greece, so he could marry the then-Princess Elizabeth.
