Redmond-based tech giant Microsoft shared crucial details on the backward compatibility feature of Xbox Series X. It also boasted that the upcoming next-generation gaming console could play thousands of Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One titles at launch. The Xbox Series X is set to arrive sometime in the holiday of 2020.

Microsoft recently revealed some major takeaways on the backward compatibility feature of the Xbox Series X. According to the Redmond-based tech giant, the upcoming next-generation gaming console is capable of doubling the framerate of some select games. However, it did not say what kind of games are included in the list that would get double framerate or the process of the upgrade.

The Redmond-based tech juggernaut also said that backward compatible games support Xbox Series X' Quick resume feature. In other words, these titles would not only benefit from a substantial reduction of loading times but also enjoy seamless dashboard loading. The Quick Resume feature of Xbox Series X enables users to create several save states across several titles.

Aside from these, Microsoft confirmed that the Xbox Series X is capable of automatically adding HD support in Xbox One titles and in Xbox 360 and even Xbox games. In Xbox Wire blog post, Jason Ronald Director of Program Management for Xbox Series X shared backward compatible titles could run natively on Xbox Series X gaming console because of the custom CPU, GPU, and Solid State Drive.

In other words, old games compatible with Xbox Series X should perform better than they did on their original platforms. Ronald also revealed that the same team that took care of the backward compatibility of Xbox One is the same team handling the feature of its next-generation gaming console. He added that the team spent more than 100,000 hours playtesting the Xbox Series X, with team members now using the XSX as their primary console.

This impressive details about the backward compatibility feature of the Xbox Series X are not really game-changers. However, these are major boosts on the robust offering of Xbox Series X in terms of backward compatibility. Microsoft has already revealed this impressive feature, beating its rival the PS5 in this aspect.

So far, Sony has not yet revealed the full design of its next-generation gaming console, the PS5. Microsoft, on the other hand, unveiled the Xbox Series X in 2019 at The Game Awards. There are rumors that Sony is preparing a digital event for the PS5 that would launch its upcoming titles.
