Apple has not yet confirmed nor announced the existence of its next flagship smartphone, the iPhone 12 series. The upcoming lineup is anticipated to launch at the WWDC on Jun 22, 2020. However, rumors about the iPhone 13 releasing in 2021 are rife online with the latest showcasing the upcoming series in mockup photos and videos.
The latest information about the iPhone 13 series came from Japanese blog site MacOtakara. The site provided several mockup images and a video of the 3D printed iPhone 13 models. It showed the 5.5-inch iPhone 13 reportedly arriving in 2021.
The blog site also claimed that the mockup came from sources at Alibaba but failed to disclose more details about it. The iPhone 13 model shown in the video is reportedly the successor of the 5.4-inch iPhone 12, which could mean this is the standard, entry-level iPhone 13 model.
The most noticeable changes shown in the mockup images and video is that the 5.5-inch iPhone 13 features a notch-less and bezel-less front. It seems that it has an embedded under-display selfie camera. It is also interesting to note that the alleged iPhone 13 model has a FaceTime camera on its front canter.
According to the blog site, the Cupertino-based tech giant would reportedly utilize Under Panel Sensor technology from Samsung for the iPhone 13 series. For its back part, the latest mockup images of the iPhone 13 reveal five cutouts for the camera module along with an LED flash. Apple is reportedly testing new camera sensors and would use it for the 2021 iPhone series.
For its display, the blog site claimed that the iPhone 13 series could not come with TrueDepth camera system. In other words, there is a chance that it could ship without the Face ID authentication. If this is accurate, the Cupertino tech giant could reintroduce under-display Touch ID in the 2021 iPhone lineup.
Other features that stand out in the mockup images and video is the cutout that looks like a USB-C port. A recent leak about the iPad Air 4 showed that it no longer has the lightning connector but instead features USB-C port. If this is accurate, it aligns with the claim of the Japanese blog site about the presence of USB-C port on the iPhone 13 series.
The upcoming series is currently in the works and might get several modifications and changes as it nears its release window. Since these details are not official, it is safe to take these with a pinch of salt and skepticism.
