Prince William is the older son of the heir apparent Prince Charles, making him the second in line to the British throne. But a new report claims that the Duke of Cambridge and his wife Kate Middleton will be “burdened” of the reign sooner than expected.

Unlike Queen Elizabeth, who is known as the longest-reigning British monarch and the first one to celebrate a Sapphire Jubilee for achieving her 65th year on the throne in 2017, Prince Charles will not get that much time. The Prince of Wales is 71 years old as of this writing and his mother is still the reigning Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms.

At 94 years old, Queen Elizabeth never took her age as an excuse to slow down and take the back seat when it comes to her royal obligations. Her Majesty pledged to serve the UK all her life, and she’s determined to not break that promise.

But of course, all things must come to an end, even Queen Elizabeth’s reign. But by the time that Prince Charles becomes King, he will not stay as long on the throne as his mother, who became the Monarch when she was 25. Royal historian Marlene Koenig then said that the “burden” is not really on the Prince of Wales, but on Prince William and Kate Middleton.

"It is inevitable and Charles' reign will be much shorter than his mother’s,” she said. “[Queen Elizabeth is] living a very long and healthy life but the burden really is on the Cambridges.”

However, it seems that Prince William and Kate Middleton are already prepared for their future roles. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are currently taking over most of the royal engagements as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles remain in isolation due to their age being considered as high-risk to catch severe COVID-19.

Although Prince William and Kate Middleton are still completing their royal obligations during the global health crisis, they don’t have to leave their home to do them. Instead, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are doing their duties virtually, and have been hosting and appearing in video calls numerous times. The couple is currently residing at their Norfolk home in Amner Hall with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have a lot of pressure on their shoulders right now, but their efforts didn’t go unnoticed at all. In fact, royal fans have continuously praised the couple for their hard work.
