Queen Elizabeth pledged to serve the UK all her life, and she’s determined to not break that promise. So despite being already in her 90s, Her Majesty had always been very active in her royal duties and never took her age as an excuse to slow down and take the back seat.
However, the coronavirus pandemic forced Queen Elizabeth to not complete her royal obligations. It was previously reported that the elderly are the most high risk to catch severe COVID-19, specifically those who are over the age of 70. This is a problem for Her Majesty, who turned 94 years old in April.
Now, a new report revealed that Prince Charles and Prince William are taking more of Queen Elizabeth’s royal duties. Royal researcher Bob Morris shared that this has been going on for quite a while due to Her Majesty’s age and health. He then pointed out that Prince Edward did the same thing for Prince Philip's former patronages.
"They've all been doing it for some time,” he said. “Because of the Queen's age, she has an inability to travel long distances. "
It was previously reported that Queen Elizabeth already segregated some of her duties to the younger royals even before the coronavirus outbreak. As of the moment, Prince William and Kate Middleton have ramped up their royal duties. Last month, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been increasing their efforts to support NHS staff and social carers’ mental health during the pandemic.
Prince William and Kate Middleton had been using social media to reach out to charities and foundations as they are also following the coronavirus lockdown. The couple is currently residing at their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
While many were concerned for Queen Elizabeth’s health, Her Majesty made a lot of royal fans happy when she was snapped riding in the grounds of Windsor Castle. This marked her first appearance since the lockdown was implemented.
Since the coronavirus pandemic is still an ongoing battle, it is hard to say when will Queen Elizabeth be seen in public again, or will she ever be allowed to do her royal engagements outside the Palace after the crisis.
However, it is worth noting that despite being in isolation, Queen Elizabeth still effectively reached out to Britons by releasing an emotional televised speech. Her Majesty gave the public strength and stability with her heartfelt message, which earned her a lot of praise as she has been a huge inspiration to the Britons for decades, and most especially during the coronavirus pandemic.
