The 2020 Presidential election is fast approaching. There are reports that Joe Biden is getting ahead of Donald Trump in most of the poll. However, there are reports that the current protests and riots due to George Floyd's death may lead to the incumbent's winning of the presidential seat once again.
In a 2015 report by the New York Mag Intelligencer, unearthed by Celebrity Insider, it revealed the effects of rioting on voters. Although riots were believed to change social norms and political policies, it brought the opposite effect sometimes.
Since the protests and riots began, a lot of celebrities and other personalities have been urging everyone not to vote for Melania Trump's husband. They are all arguing that much of everything he says is only boosting the protests that are making things even worse.
New York Mag Intelligencer's Omar Wasow, Department of Politics at Princeton University's assistant professor, said that in general, the riots "tend to create a powerful right-wing response." He even used a "county-by-county comparison," wherein areas that had "violent black-led protesters," voters opted to vote for Republicans instead of Democrats.
The non-violent protesters, on the other hand, voted for the Democrats. Hence, Wasow tried to show that the violent protests ended up triggering a backlash when it came to voting that year.
This year, it remains to be seen how the riots and protests will affect the 2020 Presidential election. However, some political pundits believed that George Floyd protests would lead to the winning of the Democrats, notably Joe Biden. But if Wasow's analyzation proves correct, the current riots, lootings, and violence happening across the United States may lead to the triumph of the Republicans and Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, the polls showed a dramatic increase in the number of people who favored Joe Biden more than Donald Trump. Although the former vice president has been outpacing the current POTUS since he announced his decision to run for the presidency, his lead has been significantly widening since last month.
In the poll made by Real Clear Politics, it revealed that Joe Biden had a 7.8 percent lead over Donald Trump, more than two points higher compared to the poll made last May. In the Monmouth University poll, the former senator from Delaware led by 11%.
Also, in the poll made by ABC News and The Washington Post, Joe Biden scored a 10-point lead over Donald Trump. Lastly, in the CNBC/Change Research poll, Biden had a 48% advantage over Trump's 41% among national likely voters.
