Queen Elizabeth is, reportedly, watching over Prince William and Kate Middleton "very carefully" to ensure that they won't make embarrassing mistakes and tarnish the monarchy. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge need to be the epitome of perfection because of their future destiny as the King and Queen of England.
According to royal author Tom Quinn, the Queen, as well as her husband Prince Philip, are keeping a close watch over Prince William and Kate. The senior royals apparently don't want the younger royals to repeat mistakes that other members of the family have committed in the past.
It's no secret that many members of the royal family have a rebellious streak. They go against protocols or hit the headlines because of their controversial behavior or associations.
Expectedly, there are a lot of expectations from Prince William and Kate because the Duke of Cambridge is the direct heir to the British throne. Fortunately, however, Prince William and Kate, who have been married for nine years, have effectively stepped up into their roles as public servants especially in this coronavirus pandemic.
According to Majesty magazine editor Ingrid Seward, Prince William and Kate feel some responsibility to assure the British public after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, left the royal family.
Prince William and Kate have embraced their duties by becoming more active and visible despite the coronavirus lockdown. Seward said that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have the highest profile and have been using this well to benefit of the monarchy.
Seward said that Kate looks more confident in her royal role today but not to the point that she overshadows Prince William. In their Zoom calls to charity, the Cambridges compliment each other, with Prince William sometimes allowing his wife to take a lead.
The royal expert said that while Prince William and Kate are both competitive people, they do not compete in their marriage. They are sending a message about being able to lead on their own.
It's unclear, however, when Prince William and Kate could return to their public engagements as the U.K. relaxes its rules on lockdown this June. Prince Charles and Camilla will be back in London this week to welcome the president of France. Princess Anne will also have a public royal engagement in London, despite the older royals' ages and risks from coronavirus.
