Tesla has decided to upgrade its Model 3 vehicles built at the U.S. Fremont Factory with features that were previously exclusive to the Model Y and Chinese-made Model 3 cars, like USB-C ports and a wireless phone charger.

The Model Y and Model 3 have similar-looking interiors except for the third-row seats and the bigger cargo space. With the newly added features, there will be very little difference between both models.

The Model Y vehicles were shipped in March and some were surprised to learn that the new electric SUV had a Qi wireless phone charger. In Model 3, it is only sold as an aftermarket item and doesn't come standard with the electric car.

Model Y also comes with USB-C ports unlike Model 3. Last month, Tesla added those features to Model 3 vehicles built in China.

It was already rumored at the time that Tesla would be adding the features to the Model 3 built in Fremont, which had its operations halted due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now that rumor has finally been addressed -- Tesla had indeed update the US-made Model 3 vehicles with USB-C ports and wireless phone charging.

The news had been confirmed via auto news website Elektrek, which had posted some pictures of the new Tesla Model 3. It is one of the rare customer-facing hardware upgrades on Model 3 since Tesla launched the vehicle in 2017.

Several media outlets are also reporting that Tesla could switch to NCM battery cells for its Model 3 cars built at the Gigafactory in Shanghai. The vehicles built in Shanghai are Tesla's first without Panasonic-made battery cells in them. The EV-maker reportedly contacted CATL and LG Chem to design batteries for the cars being built at its new factory.

If you own an older Model 3 vehicle and want a wireless phone charger, you can upgrade your own vehicle buy purchasing the same Tesla has now made standard on the vehicle. But you also have the option to order Jeda's wireless charger as well given it's much cheaper and allows charging while keeping the phone in landscape.

If you want USB-C ports, you can buy Jeda's Model 3 USB Hub to add more since there's no way to change your ports to USB-C, obviously, while also hiding a storage drive for Sentry Mode and Teslacam.

It makes for a neater center console while making use of all of the great features of your Tesla.
