The future of Alexis Sanchez is not looking that bright, especially once his loan deal to Inter Milan runs out. Though I Nerazzurri plans to seek an extension of his loan deal, there is a probability that the Chilean will return to Old Trafford at some point. The only problem seen there is that United may not be that keen to keep him due to the financial burden that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to Premier League Clubs.

Until the end of the current season, Sanchez is likely to be sticking with Inter. But the landscape may change after that if no new loan contract is arrived at. If that happens, Sanchez will not be left in the dark. According to a report from The Mirror, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to keep the Chilean for as long as he is open to accepting a new role. Though it was not mentioned, it could likely point to a backup role with the Red Devils.

Assuming Sanchez's loan is not renewed with Inter, it could be the best option if he wants to stick it out with United. Given that most clubs are cautious when it comes to adding new players, agreeing to stay short-term could be the best the 31-year-old could settle for in the meantime. But this may still be subject to approval by the higher-ups. Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward is not too keen on keeping Sanchez but Solskjaer is trying to keep the Chilean football player. The Red Devils manager is not ready to give up on Sanchez, a lifeline for him to stay at Old Trafford.

In the end, it may all be up to Sanchez. At 31, there is no question he faces a stiff likelihood of possibly having to settle for short-term deals. The amount of money offered will vary. But if he opts to try as early as now, the return may not be lucrative. He will need to factor this in on what his decision maybe once his loan deal with Inter lapses. United has a standing offer that may not interest him though it could be the only option he may have.

Inter could do him a big favor by seeking a new deal once his current one expires. This is assuming he finishes the rest of the season. Beyond that would be the big question mark. He may play on but the question is whether this will be with Inter, United or some other team who could offer him the chance to play on with the sport he loves.
