Lee Min Ho has always enjoyed tremendous popularity among Korean drama fans but he recently outdid all other actors when he became the most followed Korean actor on Instagram.
According to a report by Kdramastarz, Lee Min Ho now has 16.5 million followers on Instagram, after the conclusion of his comeback drama The King: Eternal Monarch. With the number, he surpassed Lee Jong Suk who was previously the most followed Korean actor on the platform with 15.9 million followers.
It is believed that the fans' anticipation for Lee Min Ho's fantasy drama may have something to do with the spike in his followers. Before The King: Eternal Monarch aired on April 17, Lee Min Ho only had 12.6 million followers. However, as the drama progressed, the actor saw the number of his followers increasing until it ballooned to 4 million new followers on Instagram.
After the finale, the number of followers increased by yet another 100,000 so the number currently stands at 16.6 million.
It can be recalled that the drama struggled with strong competition for its timeslot during The King: Eternal Monarch's airing. It was pitted against JTBC's megahit divorce drama The World of the Married which broke ratings records as the most-watched cable show in history. Its lead star Kim Hee Ae also bagged the Best Actress Award for Television drama during the recently concluded Baeksang Art Awards.
However, the production team behind Lee Min Ho's drama continued to show their determination to serve the action-packed fantasy series that they promised viewers and their efforts bore fruit by the drama's finale.The final episodes were well received by the audience and were rewarded by solid ratings.
According to Nielsen Korea, the last two episodes of the drama which aired last June 12 netted 5.8 percent and 8.1 percent for its two parts.
The series also paved the way for fresh opportunities for its outstanding cast members such as Woo Do Hwan. It was recently reported by Soompi that Woo Do Hwan who played a dual role in The King: Eternal Monarch, was recently offered the lead role in OCN's action drama Hero.
Based on the report, Woo Do Hwan will play the role of a prosecutor who loses his license to practice law after an altercation with a wealthy family's son. The story will revolve around his character, and several others who will try to find justice in their way in a corrupt society.
It has not yet been determined what Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun's projects will be but fans are already anticipating their next starring roles.
