Sony's next-generation gaming console PS5 was officially revealed at the company's digital event in Jun 2020. The grand launch took place following the company's postponement to give way for the massive Black Lives Matter protest. After the unveiling, some tech enthusiasts and fans mentioned the unusual size of the PS5.

Fans no need to wonder for a reason behind the size of the PS5. In a recent post at his LinkedIn account, PlayStation UX Design Vice president Matt MacLaurin addressed some of the questions about Sony's upcoming gaming console. Following the specific question about the size of the console, the executive said that the system's size has something to do with keeping it cool and heating concerns.

MacLuarin described the PS5 as a little supercomputer and said that it is capable of producing a lot of heat. The added space of the gaming console is to ensure that the heat is properly dealt with. Additionally, the exec said that the 7nm process delivers high heat performance for the amount of extreme power used.

Aside from this, the PlayStation executive mentioned that Sony Interactive Entertainment is planning to hold several events as the release window of the PS5 draws near. This aligns with the previous report published by Bloomberg and penned by Jason Schreier. The game industry insider and journalist claimed in the report that the Japanese gaming console maker would host several events for the PS5.

MacLaurin also hinted that there would be multiple special editions that would soon be made available to the consumers. The white PS5 is the console's flagship model, but the exec assured fans that there would be radical and beautiful special editions coming soon. To top it all, MacLaurin noted that the customization of the special editions is something that the industry has never seen before.

In a recent interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan, he confirmed that the PS5 is still on track for its holiday 2020 release window. When asked about the price of the PS5, Ryan said that the company is more focused on offering value to consumers. He also mentioned the Disc-Only and the Digital versions of the PS5, which, according to him, is simply offering the industry with choices.

The recent PS5 digital event showcased the list of games coming in Sony's gaming console. The company has yet to announce the date of the next digital event it would host.
