When the COVID-19 pandemic starts to grapple the United Kingdom, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, did not mind the risk and extended her hand to help. Prince Edward's wife has been secretly volunteering to different organizations to help people in need despite fears of the coronavirus.

When other members of the royal family are performing their royal duties at home, the 55-year-old royal braves the outside world and wears the chef's uniform and precautionary stuff needed to avoid contracting the disease to help. Although she is working quietly without getting much of the attention, Sophie just proves that she is the secret gem the royal family has

The mother-of-two has been helping the catering trade, party organizers, and others in the food business to prepare meals to feed the healthcare workers in the frontline. She does not only lend her hand but also gives an ample amount of time to supply food to different hospitals in London. She sometimes makes spaghetti or packs of goods herself.

Peregrine Armstrong-Jones, owner of the party planning business Bentley's Entertainment and her friend, told People the countess has been visiting different kitchens every week. She has been involved in preparing, cooking, and packing the food. She is doing everything she can so that "nurses can eat."

If she leaves the kitchen, it only means that Sophie is about to go to other hospitals to volunteer. She will just pop up in different places to do things.

This is just one of the too many volunteer works Queen Elizabeth II's daughter-in-law usually does amid the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also lent her hand at local food banks, which she shared with Prince Edward and their kids, delivered parcels to the homeless, and even took a photo of another volunteer for Kate Middleton's portrait project.

Express noted that Sophie remains humble when her work involves public interest. She will feel embarrass whenever she is being upraised, not thinking of herself as a special person.

From the looks of it, she and her husband, Prince Edward, just want to quietly support Queen Elizabeth even without the media's attention. When she recently volunteered at the Hope Hub in Camberley, Mags Mercer, chief executive of the organization, described Sophie as "lovely and down-to-earth." She has an excellent understanding of what is going around and very well-informed.

She also shows genuine interest in what she does. Sophie wants to help in a low-key manner, personal, and informative way. She gets stuck in and helps prepare food parcels, delivering five herself.
