A lot of people were surprised when Kristen Stewart was cast to play the role of Princess Diana in the movie, Spencer. The casting receives different reactions, from negative and positive comments from social media users, but what do the royals think about it?

Royal commentators revealed their thoughts about Kristen Stewart's casting to play as Princess Diana in the upcoming Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín's movie. It will feature a short period of her life that leads to the end of her marriage to Prince Charles and how she is as a mom to Prince William and Prince Harry.

Leslie Carroll, author of Diana and Charles: Royal Affairs and Notorious Royal Marriages, believed the producers chose the Twilight star due to her "built-in fan base" to capitalize on her name to draw in viewers. So, she wanted to know if the 30-year-old star auditioned and was later deemed to be the perfect fit for the role or she was offered to do it, Express noted.

As some questioned the nationality of Robert Pattinson's ex as an American and not British, Carroll explained that if she could embody the Princess of Wales' body language and imitate her "breathy and posh Sloane Range voice" it would never be a problem. Tom Quinn, who wrote Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle, also added that if her accent was not "exactly spot on," viewers from the United Kingdom would surely be "critical."

Social media users filled the Twitter world with their sentiments with the casting of an American star to play the role of an iconic British personality, saying it was confusing. Some said they were "perplexed," while others added that it was "one of the worst castings" they had ever heard of.

They even compared the two's personalities; Princess Diana is known for her "charm and charisma," while Kristen Stewart was kind of bold. However, some were supportive of the Charlie's Angels star, saying it was an opportunity and a challenge" for her.

According to News.sky.com, Spencer will focus on the three days over Christmas in the 1990s that Princess Diana stayed at Queen Elizabeth II's Sandringham estate. It was the People's Princess last holiday with the royal family as Prince Charles' wife.

It will be an independent film, produced and directed by Larraín, while its script is written by the Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. The director revealed that he was interested in breaking down the traditional images that came for being a member of the royal family and delve into Princess Diana's "fascinating life."
