Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced back in April the name of their new foundation. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared that they were inspired by the word “Arche,” which is also the name of their son, Archie, so they have decided to name their new charity, Archewell.
After their withdrawal from royal life, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are now independent royals and they are making a fresh start after moving to Los Angeles. Although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new foundation Archewell is expected to come to light later this year, they have already worked on it for months.
Unfortunately, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s plans for Archewell came to a screeching halt due to the coronavirus outbreak. Now, a new report revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are redirecting their focus to other issues.
"Their charity launch is officially delayed,” Royally Obsessed podcast host Roberta Fiorito said. "Archewell is not coming in 2020 but it’s probably for the best because they are focussing on other things.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are shifting their attention to the Black Lives Matter movement. The Duchess of Sussex talked about the campaign earlier this month in a graduation speech she gave to her old high school. If there is one royal family member that people expect to talk about this movement, it’s her.
Before she became a part of the Royal family, Meghan Markle had already shared her struggles being a biracial woman. The Duchess of Sussex revealed that she experienced racism because of the color of her skin.
Meghan Markle went on to say that because of her race, she became a subject of name-calling and offensive jokes. She also shared that her mother Doria Ragland was called a racial slur. The former Suits star said that she is “personally affected by racism” and is hoping for “things to be better” in the world.
In 2012, Meghan Markle joined USA Network's “Characters Unite: ‘I Won't Stand For’” campaign. A new report then shared that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are having major talks with organizations about the Black Lives movement. The campaign had been active for a long time but it was heavily highlighted last month when George Floyd died at the hands of police brutality.
George Floyd was just one of many black people who died and suffered in the hands of police. Many are convinced that the whole scenario had something to do with racism.
