Former U.S. vice president Joe Biden has beaten the unpopular president Donald Trump in yet another national poll, this time seizing a commanding 14 point lead in a poll of registered voters by The New York Times and Siena College. It's the third poll in June from different pollsters such as Fox News and CNN showing Biden with a 10 point or higher lead over Trump.

The latest New York Times and Siena College poll shows Biden ahead of Trump, 50% to 36%, in answer to the question, "If the 2020 presidential election were held today, whom would you vote for?" The poll reaffirms Biden's already solid support among his core constituency of women and nonwhite voters.

Of more concern to Trump are poll results confirming his continuing loss of support among his traditional base of male voters, whites and people in middle age and older. The poll also shows Biden narrowing Trump's advantage among less-educated white voters.

It confirms the loss of support for Trump among white voters from the Republican Party is increasing, especially among younger voters. This trend bodes ill for the GOP, which remains heavily dependent for votes on older Americans whose numbers are fast declining.

Other key polling results:

* White women with college degrees support Biden over Trump by 39 percentage points.

* Fifty-two percent of whites under 45 support Biden while only 30 percent said they support Trump.

* Biden is ahead of Trump by 22 percentage points among women and by three percentage points among men.

* Biden's support is strongest among voters ages 18 to 34, among whom he holds a 34 percentage point lead

* He also wins among voters 35 to 49 years old by 23 percentage point, and among voters 65 years and older by two percentage points.

* On the other hand, Trump draws support from voters 50 to 64 years old, who favor him over Biden by one percentage point.

* Voters say Trump can do a better job than Biden of handling the economy. The poll shows 50% of voters have this opinion compared to 45% that support Biden.

The poll also shows a strong voter preference for Biden on the twin key issues of who can better handle the COVID-19 pandemic and who can bring about racial justice in the United States.

White voters under 45 are overwhelmingly support the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. In contrast, older whites are less supportive of racial justice activism.

The poll shows two-fifths of whites over 65 disapprove Trump's handling of both the coronavirus and race relations.

By a 21-point margin, poll respondents reject Trump's call to reopen the economy as quickly as possible, even if this means increasing the chance more Americans will be taken ill by COVID-19. This is also Biden's view. Only a third of voters said the federal government should focus on restarting the economy even if that means greater public-health risks.

Voters also reject the way Trump is handling race relations. Sixty-one percent said they disapproved of Trump's handling of race compared to 33% that approved. By a similar margin, voters said they disapproved of Trump's response to the protests after the murder of George Floyd.
