Liverpool captured the Premier League crown and ended the wait of 30 years for the domestic honor, and the man of the hour is team manager Jurgen Klopp. The German is getting praises for engineering the string of triumphs the club has been picking up, starting with the Champions League win in 2019. A proposal emerged that he stays at Anfield for life, but Klopp is saying no.
Klopp's existing contract with Liverpool will see him in charge of the team until 2024, and on top of that commitment, the boss made a promise that will around "for a while."
However, the champion manager stopped short of giving his nod to the suggestion that management should sign him to a lifetime deal. There is no such offer from Liverpool at the moment, but Klopp said he sees no need for such an arrangement.
"A present I can make to our supporters is that I don't sign a lifetime contract because there will be a time when they don't want to see me anymore," Metro reported the Reds boss as saying, citing his interview with Sky Sports.
Yet while Klopp brushed aside the idea of being tied with Liverpool for as long as possible, he assured the fans of the club that he'll be around long enough, likely calling shots for the Reds squad at least until the end of his contract.
The German admitted that his side winning the league title after three decades of frustrations was overwhelming. He could not collect the words he meant to utter while being interviewed when informed about the win. Klopp said it was a scene out of character for him.
"I was completely overwhelmed. I was crying too much last night," the coach shared.
He has all the reasons to feel stunned and in a good way. Liverpool becoming the champions in England also resulted in the club overtaking Manchester United as the most successful club in English football competition.
The Reds now boast of 43 major title victories to the Red Devils' 42, which indicated that Liverpool once again is the best football club in the country.
Even so, Klopp said there is no stopping his squad from collecting more honors, adding the team is relentless on the pursuit to greater excellence.
CNN said Liverpool can shoot for the moon with seven games to go in the Premier League. Klopp's side has 86 points and can reach 100 points in the next 25 days. It will be tough to accomplish, but the boss said the Reds are all geared up for the challenge.
"It's incredibly difficult, so for sure we have to make changes and we need to be lucky with everything ... These boys will not stop throwing their soul on the pitch, 100%. They see the chance for a points record," the German told CNN.
The last time a Premier League club registered 100 points was during the 2017-18 season. Manchester City proved a juggernaut then, and the side of Pep Guardiola also won the title.
