It goes without saying that Galaxy Fold has got the attention of many tech watchers, so it's only natural to cast all eyes on its successor. Samsung's foldable offering didn't start out quite well, but the South Korean behemoth redeemed itself with the Galaxy Z Flip. Now, we're all waiting for the Galaxy Fold 2.

But rumor has it the next foldable phone will be named quite differently. Samsung has decided to change its naming system a bit, which isn't really surprising considering many tech companies seem to have an affinity for odd gadget names.

According to a report from SamMobile, the foldable phone's successor will be called Galaxy Z Fold 2. Now, it's clear that all of Samsung's foldable smartphones will be huddled under the Galaxy Z family.

The branding of the series was made known to us through the Galaxy Z Flip, Samsung's first clamshell foldable. In February, the company confirmed that it had decided to name its foldable line as Galaxy Z.

That's also when Samsung moved the original Galaxy Fold to the newly-added Galaxy Z category on its website. At the time, tech watchers were already positive that the sequel to the Galaxy Fold will follow the Z naming convention, and they were right. Samsung consolidating all of its foldable smartphones under one brand makes us think there will be more foldable devices in the future.

Branding aside, we're sure more are interested in what the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is capable of doing. So far, the only thing certain is that the device will come with a bigger cover display in addition to a 7.7-inch foldable display. It will also have One UI's latest version and support for 5G.

As for its date of launch, all we have are rumors and leaks from Twitter sleuths. There's one going around that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be unveiled on Aug. 5 and released into the wild on Aug. 20. Joining the next foldable device is the introduction of a 5G version of the Galaxy Z Flip and the highly anticipated Note 20.

The August dates make a lot of sense though, based on Samsung's historical affinity for that month. However, a word from prolific mobile leaker Max Weinbach is that there will be no Galaxy Note 20 until September.

As for the pricing, there's no info yet, but we're hoping it's somewhere lower than its predecessor's $1,980 price tag.
