Before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals, Prince Charles, reportedly, wanted to expand their roles in the monarchy. A royal author claimed that the Duke of Cornwall was even happy when the Sussexes tied the knot in 2018, but everything changed when they announced their plan to step back from their royal roles.

Prince Charles was said to be planning on increasing Prince Harry and Meghan's role in the Royal Family. But, as there is no such thing as an "absent HRH" after they chose to move from Canada to Los Angeles with their son, Archie, the Prince of Wales' hope was gone.

Nigel Cawthorne told Express, via Daily Mail, that the future king used to be delighted with the Duchess of Sussex. He would have "continued to draw the couple in" and expanded their role in The Firm "as much as he could be expected."

Although the husband of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has been, reportedly, aiming to have a slimmer monarchy, Cawthorne explained the Duke of Sussex and his wife would never be part of it.

However, when they left the UK, it only meant that their position in the Royal Family also "came to an end." Prince Harry and Meghan dropped their bombshell announcement to step down as senior royals in January.

They originally planned to split their time between the UK and the US. However, as the COVID-19 grapples the world, they ended up holed up at their $18-million mansion, owned by the Hollywood actor Tyler Perry, in Beverly Hills.

Although they were rarely seen out and about, the two were spotted in Beverly Hills on Friday, July 10. In the photos obtained by Daily Mail, they were both wearing face masks and hats to protect themselves not just from the sun but from the coronavirus too.

They were caught leaving a building and getting their car, a Cadillac SUV, from a valet service. In online reviews, the vehicle was said to be chugging gas, so it's called a "gas-guzzling Cadillac SUV." It's far from being an environment-friendly automobile, which opposed their advocacy as an eco-conscious duo.

This may once again raise questions about their staunch support to the environment, as the luxury Cadillac Escalade comes with a "gas-guzzling six-liter engine." Hence, this may cause another "sustainability gaffe" for Prince Harry and Meghan, who also met criticisms about their environmental causes but go around the world by boarding a private jet.
