Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz is close to a deal with Premier League club Chelsea, following the two sides agreeing on personal terms the youngster's summer transfer from Germany to England. The Blues outrace the competition by expressing willingness to pay the £70 million transfer fee demanded by Havertz's side.

Reports from Germany indicated that the deal between Chelsea and Leverkusen is practically done. The terms have been discussed thoroughly and officials from both sides will soon meet for the finalization of other details.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea technical adviser Petr Cech will meet with representatives of the opposite side in Germany after the Premier League season is over. The initial agreement between the two sides seemed to be focused on the German playmaker's selling price.

Leverkusen had set the tag at £90 million but the side of Frank Lampard is said to be preparing an offer that will see the outright payment of £70 million. The balance will be covered in the form of incentive payouts over the course of Havertz's stay at Stamford Bridge.

Cech talking with Leverkusen officials is expected to seal the deal, that is if the German side will accept the payment terms that the Blues will present.

Havertz, however, has already decided on joining up with the Blues, Metro reported. The Bundesliga sensation had a recent talk with Lampard and the player was sold on the plans and vision laid out before him by the Chelsea manager.

The club's aggressive hiring in recent months saw the exciting signing of another German star, Timo Werner, from RB Leipzig. It is understood that the prospect of playing alongside Werner excites Havertz as the two are teammates in Germany.

Chelsea also recently welcomed the arrival of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and all the signings are viewed as the Lampard's side intention of contending strongly not only for the Premier League but also for the Champions League title next season.

The picture of a strong Chelsea squad to dominate England and Europe appeared to be the lure that convinced Havertz to sign on with Lampard.

Havertz has already made a transfer request and Leverkusen seemed ready to sign the release paper of the midfielder but rather reluctantly. In a recent statement, Rudi Voller, the club's sporting director, said Havertz is easily the best player in Leverkusen's history.

The good words are backed by Havertz's sterling performance with the club. He appeared in a total of 148 matches for the German side and scored 45 goals and 31 assists. In addition,  scouts and pundits have characterized the Bundesliga star as the younger and better version of fellow German Mesut Ozil.
