Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, has her own royal obligations, but she is reportedly going to take over Prince Harry’s favorite role after he and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from being senior royals at the end of March.

As part of their royal exit deal, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will lose their HRH titles, and they are banned from using the word “royal” in their future ventures. Harry will also no longer hold his treasured military titles.

Prince Harry became a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy, a Major in the British Army, and a Squadron Leader in the Royal Air Force during his years of service. Prince Philip also passed the role of Captain-General of the Royal Marines to Harry after his retirement in 2017.

Although Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are still in a one-year trial period, the couple has made it clear that they will remove themselves from the royal bubble for good. That said, it is unlikely that Harry will maintain his honorary military titles as a non-working royal.

Now, a report suggests that Camilla could be the one to take over the ceremonial titles. The Duchess of Cornwall is set to receive a special role that would be passed on by Prince Philip this week. The Duke of Edinburgh will take part in a ceremony to mark the transfer as the Colonel-in-Chief of The Rifles from him to Camilla.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth released a statement saying that she and the Royal Family members support Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step down as senior royals. But just like most decisions, theirs also comes with a price.

Even though the couple will still be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they can “no longer formally represent” Queen Elizabeth in their new lives. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams shared that losing his military titles deeply upsets Prince Harry.

“I think the loss of his military links, especially that of Captain-General of the Royal Marines. Since he can no longer wear uniform, this is something he will feel deeply,” he said.

Richard Fitzwilliams added that even though it appears that Prince Harry is ready to move on from his senior royal obligations to being a non-working royal, he may miss his old life in the future. The Duke of Sussex is royal by birth, and being a prince had always been a part of him.
