Prince George is reportedly a big fan of football – so much so that his parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, let him play for the local team during term time.

Royal expert Kate Nicholl describes Prince George as a "football crazy" kid whose parents indulge his hobby. Apparently, Prince William and Kate enjoy watching their eldest son play and they are sometimes in the crowd to cheer him on.

Nicholl said that she wouldn't be surprised if Prince George had a football-themed party for his seventh birthday. The Cambridge royal turned a year older on July 22 and celebrated his big day with just his family at their country home in Norfolk, due to the social distancing and mass gathering rule in Britain.

For his sixth birthday last year, Prince George celebrated with a sports-themed party at Kensington Palace. Nicholl said that Prince William and Kate invited his whole class from Thomas's Battersea,  and that Prince George loved all the football-themed presents he received.

This year, however, Prince George wasn't able to celebrate his birthday with friends because of the coronavirus restrictions. A source close to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's family said that the family, instead, had a camping-themed party in Norfolk, where they had BBQ meals prepared.

Kate's parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, joined the family for Prince George's birthday celebration. Prince William and Kate surprised their eldest son with a yurt, where they plan on putting some furniture for future use.

Meanwhile, it's not surprising Prince George is an avid football fan because his father is also into sports. Nicholl said that Prince William is a frequent visitor to Villa Park, where he watches the games of his favorite Premier League team, Aston Villa.

In October 2019, Prince William took Prince George to watch his first-ever football match live in the stands. The little royal enthusiastically cheered for Aston Villa but Prince William kept his cool and acted like he wasn't a fan.

Prince William revealed why he could not cheer for his favorite team at that time in the BBC documentary Football, Prince William and Our Mental Health. Apparently, the father and son were seated among Norwich fans, the opponent of Aston Villa, so he let Prince George do the cheering for him.

The proud father also shared that Prince George loved to listen to the Three Lions football anthem when he woke up every morning during the World Cup. He personally told Frank Skinner, who sang the song, about his son's morning ritual and said that he thought it would fade away soon but Prince George kept at it every day for many days.
