Katy Perry and Taylor Swift have been friends again but, a few years ago, they were in a wide-publicized feud. Perry said tabloids had a big role in overhyping the issue between her and Taylor in the past.

In a remote appearance at Howard Stern's show, Perry was asked about several things about her past, particularly her infamous feud with Swift in 2014. Katy shared her view as to why the falsehoods of their feud spread further and faster than the truth. She said it was because of the media overhyping the issue at the time.

She gave almost the same explanation to Ellen DeGeneres on how the feud between herself and Swift started. Katy told Ellen that it was all a "misunderstanding."

The beef between the two famous pop stars started because of their backup dancers. Apparently, the dancers had worked for Perry in the past but also joined Swift in her Red Tour. When Perry later announced her Prism Tour, she, apparently, asked the dancers to come back, which they did.

When Swift had an interview with Rolling Stone in 2014, she said someone tried to sabotage her arena tour by trying to hire people who were working on her tour. Then, Taylor released her song "Bad Blood." Many thought it was about Perry. The "Roar" singer got back at Swift with her song, "Swish, Swish."

The two finally decided to bury the hatchet when Katy appeared on the music video for Taylor's "You Need To Calm Down," where they wore a matching burger and french fry costume. The American Idol judge revealed that she and Swift decided to reconcile publically to show an example of redemption to their young fans.

The "Firework" singer added there is also a double standard in the music industry when it comes to media reporting of feud or rivalry between two female musicians. Perry told Stern that people won't read stories if Justin Bieber is feuding with Ed Sheehan for instance, or Shawn Mendes and Niall Horan.

Katy Perry said, right now, she and Swift are "super friends." The 35-year-old mom-to-be added she always wanted the best for Taylor.

Aside from doing great in their friendship, the two are also having the best time of their respective romances. The "Dark Horse" singer is, currently, pregnant with her first child with fiance, Orlando Bloom. As for Taylor, her romantic relationship with Joe Alwyn is getting stronger.

Moreover, the two continue to work on their music despite the pandemic. Katy, recently, dropped the song "Daisies" ahead of the release of her fifth album, Smile, next month. Swift, on the other hand, dropped a surprise album, Folklore, on July 24.
