A royal historian claimed Prince Harry should have learned from the mistakes of his mother, Princess Diana, that nobody could compete with the Queen. Hugo Vickers explained the members of the Royal Family are there to support the monarch and not compete with Queen Elizabeth II.
The writer asserted that this is a lesson that Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, still needed to learn. He even gave an example from their controversial biography, Finding Freedom, that they believed they had tossed the monarchy around to the "new heights around the world."
In his piece on the Daily Mail, the journalist revealed the book authors Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie said the Sussexes liked being in control of their own story. They wanted to "call their own shots."
Hence, it is the reason why they, reportedly, agree "to fold their household in Buckingham Palace, instead of creating their "own independent court." Allegedly, this proved to be a huge "disappointment" to them.
Vickers added it seemed to be a confirmation that Prince Harry and Meghan are more concerned about promoting their own agendas than "the interests of the monarchy itself." He continued that Princess Diana tried to compete with Queen Elizabeth by doing things on her own "independent way."
He feared that it might have rubbed off on her son and the daughter-in-law that she never met. As the late People's Princess did not find any joy to work outside the system, Vickers said the same thing might happen to Prince Harry.
Express added Vickers elaborated that the Royal Family members have been there to help serve the Queen and not to compete with her. It is the best and only way that the monarchy can work effectively.
He, then, said that Princess Diana always complained about her secretaries and courtiers, allegedly, failing to give her the good advice she needed. However, Vickers insisted they all did, but she often never listened.
In Meghan, Vickers believed Prince Harry found the woman that seemed to be like his mother, who tragically died in a car crash in Paris in 1997. With everything that is happening with the Duke of Sussex, Queen Elizabeth is, reportedly, saddened by the situation he is into.
He is, now, isolated from the Royal Family that also makes him away from his beloved grandmother, who is "hugely fond of him." Despite the rumors about their relationship, Prince Harry and Queen Elizabeth have a strong personal bond.
