Mesut Ozil was nowhere in sight when Arsenal came from behind and turned back Chelsea to win the club's 14th FA Cup trophy. The German's absence was not surprising as he was dropped from the squad by Gunners manager Mikel Arteta since the season restart but one Arsenal legend wasn't pleased.

Perry Grooves thought Ozil's action showed he cannot be bothered with Arsenal's business, which indicated too that the playmaker is "selfish."

"He's not bothered about Arsenal, he's just bothered about himself ... He knows he's done with Arsenal," Goal reported the former Arsenal forward as saying.

Ozil has not been on the pitch since the Premier League returned in June. The 31-year-old continues to train with the club but was denied of playing minutes by Arteta, who defended his decision as a tactical move.

The Spanish boss also made clear that he could not see the Arsenal outcast wearing the shirt again anytime soon.

Prior to the FA Cup game, it was understood that Ozil sought and was permitted to travel to Turkey, likely convinced that his coach has no plan of sending him to the pitch.

Ozil, however, took to Instagram to celebrate virtually with his teammates and greeted the winning squad: "Great job my boys."

With his career at the Emirates practically over, speculations are rife that Arteta will move the German in the summer. But Ozil's weekly wage of £350,000 is proving a big turn-off to would-be buyers, on top of the perception that the player is already past his peak.

Notwithstanding Arsenal's plans to offload him the soonest, Erkut Sogut, Ozil's agent, has maintained that his client will see out his contract with the Premier League side. That should mean the German will continue to collect his salary with Arsenal with or without playing minutes from Arteta.

Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Martin Keown called the Ozil episode as an unnecessary distraction for his old club. He added that Arteta must deal with the situation and get it out of his way the soonest.

"The 31-year-old has not signed an extension and it is now important that Arsenal resolve his future one way or another this summer," The Mirror reported the Keown as saying.

He also advised that Arsenal should learn from the Ozil experience in dealing with the contract renewal negotiation for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon forward has less 12 months left on his existing deal with the club but has so far shunned away from signing an extension.

Keown said either Aubameyang must sign a new deal in the summer or he is allowed to leave. The important thing is for Arsenal to focus on the campaign next season and not be bogged down by lingering signing issues, the club legend added.
