Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, officially, stepped down from their senior royal roles at the end of March. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed in their withdrawal announcement that they wished to be “financially independent” as they make a fresh start outside the Royal Family.

The couple, then, promised to pay back all the taxpayer funds that were used to renovate their Windsor, Frogmore Cottage home, and pay commercial rent on the property. They, also, agreed to not be funded by the Sovereign Grant anymore.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s security bills were paid by U.K. taxpayers. While they did not mind it before, some are, now, upset if they will continue paying for the Duke and Duchess’s security after abandoning the Royal Family. U.S. President Donald Trump, also, refused to pay for their security bills and told them to do it themselves.

This may not be a problem for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as they have multi-million net worths. Also, since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said that they want to be “financially independent,” they may have already sorted things out.

Despite Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s claim, the CEO of Republic Graham Smith, which is a British republican pressure group, said that they are still receiving funding from the U.K. through Prince Charles.

"Prince Charles funds are from the Duchy of Cornwall, the Duchy of Cornwall belongs to us. We are giving him more than £20 million a year from the Duchy of Cornwall profits," he said, adding that the U.K. “still lose” because the Prince of Wales continues to help fund Prince Harry and Meghan Markle despite their royal exit.

Graham Smith, previously, said that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should find sources of income to pay for their lavish lifestyle. He pointed out that the U.K. doesn’t owe them a penny. He, also, rejected the Duchess of Sussex’s claim that her royal wedding provided an economic boost for Britain. "There just isn’t any evidence to support that whatsoever,” he noted.

The Republic's CEO believes that it’s actually the other way around. He said that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s 2018 wedding was a "net-loss" for British taxpayers.

TalkRADIO's Mike Graham, previously, asked Charles Rae if the U.K. is still paying for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s security. The royal expert claimed that they still are because “at the moment Prince Charles is giving them £2million a year” to help them pay for their security.
