There are murmurs of Manny Pacquiao possibly facing Gennady Golovkin at some point in the future. However, it appears the Filipino boxer may have quashed any possibility of that with his latest revelations. Pacquiao has no plans of moving up from 147 lbs. to face the Kazakhstan pug, possibly lowering any chances of such a fight from happening.

According to the Manila Times, a fight with Golovkin somehow interests Pacquiao but the only way it will happen is if the Kazakh KO artist is to move down to his preferred weight level. The likelihood of that happening is not looking good. Former trainer Abel Sanchez stressed Golovkin is pretty much set fighting at 154 lbs. and may not work his way down to face the Pac-Man.

"As long as it is 147 lbs, I am okay with that. But if it’s above that, it’s too big for me," Pacquiao said.

In 2010, Pacquiao did try to fight at super-welterweight, facing Antonio Margarito. Pacquiao dominated the fight and won by unanimous decision to show everyone that he can fight in any weight class. However, the boxer-senator is now 41 and has no reason to fight in another weight class.

"No more. I am okay with Margarito. I did not really have a hard time then, but he was too big," Pacquiao said.

Golovkin is trying to get things back in track after suffering a loss to Canelo Alvarez in 2018. He is on the right track and was rumored to be facing the Mexican Brawler in a trilogy fight. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has altered the schedules, placing that third meeting up in the air.

As for Pacquiao, Sanchez feels that Golovkin is unlikely to weigh down just to make the fight happen, World Boxing News reported. If the fight does happen, Sanchez gave his analysis of how the fight would go.

“I think it would be difficult to make the weight comfortably. And if there is a rehydration limit, that makes it more difficult for Golovkin," Sanchez said. “I see Manny having his moments early in the fight, but Gennadiy Golovkin is no Margarito. Golovkin will hurt Manny,” Sanchez said.

A Pacquiao vs. Golovkin fight would be something with the odds likely in favor of Golovkin even if he were to go down in weight. Though there is a possibility that Pacquiao may bulk up and face GGG, he has no reason to do so. The Pac-Man has nothing left to prove so adjusting to the Kazakhstan destroyer makes little to no sense.
