Odsonne Edouard has been making waves with Celtic FC and his performance has drawn the attention of several teams. With only a year remaining in his current deal, there is a chance he could follow another former Celtic's move in Moussa Dembele. But for retired Hoops star Kris Commons there is another way to look at his situation.

First, seeing Edouard following the same road that Dembele took is understandable. Back in 2018, Dembele ended up moving to Lyon. Now, some feel that Edouard could be headed in the same way if Celtic wants to. And the reason behind it is cashing in since the 22-year-old is a hot commodity. Several clubs have expressed interest in the French player. The list includes Arsenal, Manchester United and Leicester.

The reason behind the interest in the 22-year-old French national is understandable. In 128 appearances, he has scored 65 goals. With several clubs bent on investing in youth, Edouard is undoubtedly one of the ideal targets to consider. But the better question is on whether the time is ripe for The Bhoys to cash in?

As far as Commons is concerned, he disagrees with the notion that the future of Edouard hinges on the Celtic's progress in Europe this season. He feels that it may be a bit too late for any sale to materialize since the ship has "already sailed," The Daily Mail reported.

"The season is already under way. If they were of a mind to cash-in on Edouard, they'd have done it six weeks ago to give themselves time to find a suitable replacement," Commons said.

Celtic did take in Albian Ajeti but Commons feels he is not the kind of guy who can replace Edouard. The fact that Ajeti was warming the West Ham bench last season indicates that he was not brought in to fill in the void if Edouard is dealt away. He believes Peter Lawwell is too smart for that.

"As for Edouard, he's still got one more year left in the tank at Celtic. I would be astonished if they let him go at this stage of proceedings. Listen, I understand that money talks, but Peter Lawwell is a smart man. He'll know that selling Edouard now would be playing with fire," Commons explained.

Also, the financial status of clubs needs to be a factor in. Most teams are wary of spending at this juncture and may opt to wait until next season. Ironically, that would be about the same time that Edouard would be due to a new lease.
