Stranger Things season 4 hasn't kicked off filming yet, though it is expected to be back in production in the coming months. Despite the wait, series creators Ross Duffer and Matt Duffer have been teasing what viewers can expect in the sci-fi drama.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Duffer brothers discussed the future of the series and what's next beyond Stranger Things season 4. When it comes to the shooting status of the next installment, the series creators have something to say about it.

Ross said everyone is excited to go back on set and start working again. However, their top priority at the moment is the safety of cast and crew. Due to the real-life health crisis, everything depends on the current situation as it dictates when they could resume working.

Matt, on the other hand, said they've got a lot more time to work on the scripts of the new season. He added that it's the first time they have all the scripts written. Because of this, they were able to look at them as a whole piece and make some adjustments.

Stranger Things season 4 halted its production due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it is expected to resume filming next month. Previous reports suggest that everyone could go back working on September 17, though it is still subjected to change.

As for the release date, the series may not be coming back anytime soon because of the delays. Aside from the filming challenges, the show has a lengthy post-production window, as well. Thus, Netflix may decide to drop Stranger Things season 4 at some point in 2020.

The good news is that the upcoming installment won't be the final one. Ross confirmed the story will not end in the fourth season. Also, he teased what the end is and they know when it is. The pandemic gave them more time to look ahead and figure out what's the best for the series.

They were able to identify what's needed to be done and it gave them a better idea of how long they wanted to tell a particular story. Also, this is a confirmation that we're getting a few more seasons beyond Stranger Things season 4. Yet, the CarterMatt noted the series isn't destined to go on for seven or eight seasons, largely because it has young cast members. If everyone ages up, the tone and style need to change, as well.
