Magnum P.I. season 3 hasn't kicked off production until now. There are a lot of uncertainties at the moment as to why filming has been delayed, with the current global health crisis being one of the major reasons. Yet, it seems like CBS is still planning to release the series later this year.
Reportedly, Magnum P.I. season 3 could arrive this coming November. But then, it should be noted that nothing is officially confirmed and the plan could still be changed. The series films in Hawaii, so certain health guidelines and protocols implemented on the island should be followed.
If they proceed with the plan, one of the questions is how many episodes they could release this year. It looks like the writers already have certain plans regarding the episode count before dropping the new installment. This is something that was revealed by the series' official writers' room via Twitter.
When one fan asked how many episodes they have to complete before releasing the new season, the Magnum P.I. Writers account confirmed they'll likely shoot six episodes before releasing the first one. That means production needs about two months to complete such an episode counts.
The plan coincides with the speculations that Magnum P.I. season 3 will be released in November. But while the premiere is plausible, the safety of cast and crew remains to be the top priority right now. A lot of people are working behind the scenes, so everything must be planned out carefully to ensure the safety of everyone on set.
In addition, cast and crew who aren't from the island need to travel and then undergo the 14-day quarantine period before they could start working. Clearly, more works are needed to be done before officially releasing the new installment.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Magnum P.I. season 3 won't air any Holiday episodes this time around. This news was revealed through Twitter that no such episodes will be released due to the uncertainties around the world, particularly the pandemic.
Another reason why new installment opted not to air Holiday episodes is that viewers may find it odd watching a Valentine's Day episode airing in March, or Christmas Day episode airing in February. It would be challenging to deliver such stories given that the theme is seasonal.
Despite the lack of Holiday episodes, Magnum P.I. season 3 will continue to bring more interesting stories moving forward. Magnum (Jay Hernandez) and Higgins' (Perdita Weeks) relationship, in particular, will be further explored. It's interesting to see whether or not their partnership could lead to a romantic direction.
