Dean Henderson just got a new six-year deal with Manchester United, a move that has raised a lot of questions. But there is perhaps no better question to ask on what lies ahead at the goalkeeping position at Old Trafford.

Most know that this honor belongs to David De Gea. But following some questionable performances, some feel that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could do well by considering a change at the shot-stopper position. Henderson could be that guy.

Last season, Henderson was on loan to Sheffield United. But his performance has gotten the attention of Solskjaer. Though he could still be technically loaned out, United reportedly plans to use him instead. This means that Sergio Romero is likely to be leaving since the Red Devils need only two goalies. There are several teams interested in Romero such as Chelsea, Everton and Leeds United.

But even with his exit, the issue at Old Trafford is far from settled. Solksjaer will have a big decision to make. Will he stick with De Gea or change it up with Henderson?

The Henderson signing could be a wakeup call for De Gea. He is earning big but the Red Devils need to consider his performance. Though Henderson showed he can do better, there is no telling if he can replicate that with United. But in the end, there may be one goalkeeper unhappy with the development.

"We are in a strong position within the goalkeeping department and that gives us the competition for places that we are looking for in the squad," Solskjaer said.

Giving De Gea some challenge makes sense. United does have two good goalkeepers but one is unlikely to be happy this season.

For Henderson, he appears ready to take on the challenge. He admits that he thinks highly of De Gea and hopes to learn more from him. But with the no. 1 spot on the line, will this relationship blossom or heat up?

"David De Gea has had an unbelievable career at the football club and it wasn’t so long ago I was saying, if I could replicate that career one day I would be a very proud man. So to learn off him and the other two top goalkeepers within the department would be great. I am really looking forward to it,” Henderson said.

As for Romero, it will be interesting where he ends up. But a plausible destination is Chelsea, ironically the same club that was linked to Henderson. Frank Lampard is not too happy with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero and is exploring the market for a shot-stopper.
