Fiat Chrysler is set to relaunch its iconic Jeep Grand Wagoneer, which will now be offered as the company's flagship sports utility vehicle (SUV) with a hefty price tag of around $100,000. The price tag will make the Grand Wagoneer Fiat Chrysler's most expensive model, pitting it up against more upscale competitors such as the Land Rover Range Rover and the Cadillac Escalade.
To accommodate more budget-conscious buyers, Fiat Chrysler will be offering a base Jeep Wagoneer model that will start at around $60,000. The company is expected to ship the new model to dealerships early next year. According to Jeep global president, Christian Meunier, the $100,000 Grand Wagoneer will be for the fully loaded model with all options ticked off.
The only other vehicle in Fiat Chrysler's stable that can be bought for six figures is its special edition Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The low-volume performance SUV is equipped with the company's iconic V8 Hellcat engine.
During a media event on Thursday, Meunier stated that the brand new 2021 model will mark the official return of the "premium American icon." At the same event, Fiat Chrysler unveiled a concept version of the new model, which it stated closely resembles the actual production vehicle.
Jeep originally launched the iconic "land yacht" Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer in 1963. The company continued to produce the base Wagoneer SUV until 1991. Fiat Chrysler had promised fans that it would resurrect the vehicle as part of its strategy to get a larger market share in the highly lucrative full-sized SUV segment.
The 2021 Wagoneer will be released in two separate platforms, which will greatly differ in length. This is the same strategy that is being utilized by General Motors for its Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC SUV lines.
Similar to its predecessor, which was relatively luxurious and high-tech during its time, the new Wagoneer will be equipped with all the bells and whistles that befit a modern and high-tech luxury SUV. Apart from its exterior and interior features, Fiat Chrysler has yet to detail the exact powertrains that will be coming with next year's model.
For its exterior, the Grand Wagoneer will sport elements that look similar to the original model. This includes windows that form a greenhouse around the vehicle. On the inside, the vehicle sports a total of seven screens, including a massive 10.25-inch screen for the passenger.
