President Donald Trump, allegedly, demanded to stay in Buckingham Palace when he visited London in June 2019, a new report stated.
The POTUS reportedly asked overnight accommodation from the Royal Household because his predecessor, Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, were given rooms at Queen Elizabeth's official residence during their state visits.
According to Daily Mirror, Trump's people made it clear to the staff at Downing Street that he would like to spend a night in Buckingham Palace. Only, many of the rooms were being refurbished at that time so they could not grant his request.
A source said that royal courtiers carefully looked into the matter because they didn't want to appear that they snubbed the U.S. president. However, it just wasn't possible so Trump and his entourage were accommodated at the Winfield House, the residence of the U.S. ambassador to the U.K.
But, an adviser from the White House said that Trump didn't sleep well at Winfield House. Apparently, he was awakened in the early morning by the sound from a nearby mosque.
This was Trump's first state visit to Buckingham Palace although he previously had a working visit to London in 2017. The president also met with Prince Charles and Camilla, Prince Andrew, Prince William and Kate Middleton. He had a private meeting with then-Prime Minister Teresa May as well.
Prince Harry was present at the state dinner for Trump but without Meghan Markle. Many speculated that the American duchess deliberately skipped the event but Meghan was not there because she was barely a month off her maternity leave.
Trump saw the Queen again in December 2019 at Buckingham Palace for the annual NATO summit. A video from that official event involving British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron became viral because they were talking about Trump behind his back.
According to reports, the three leaders were heard talking about how Trump had an unplanned 40-minute conference, which pushed back other meetings on the schedule. Trudeau apparently told Johnson and Macron that Trump's people had their jaw to the floor as he rambled on to the press.
That same evening, another video surfaced of Princess Anne appearing like she ignored greeting President Trump in Buckingham Palace. Observers online speculated that Queen Elizabeth chastised her daughter for her behavior and the video became hotly debated on the internet.
