Stargirl season 2 hasn't kicked off production as of yet due to the current global health crisis. The cast and crew won't be able to start filming anytime soon unless the situation gets a little bit better. The good thing is that there are a lot of updates as to what's coming in the new season.

During the recent show's Fandome panel, executive producer Geoff Johns confirmed that the rivalry between Courtney/Stargirl (Brec Bassinger) and Cindy/Shiv (Meg DeLacy) will continue in Stargirl season 2. This is interesting since their conflict is one of the most entertaining parts of the first season.

The biggest concern here, however, is that Cindy may have awakened Eclipso at the end of season 1 finale. This is something that could threaten Courtney moving forward. Cindy and Eclipso could team up and take down their common enemies: The Justice Society of America.

Cindy found Eclipso encased in a Heart of Darkness. What's dangerous about this character is that he can possess and control others. There's a possibility that Cindy is going to use him and have someone else possess to have a new ally of her own.

Meanwhile, Johns added that he's excited for people to see more of Grundy in Stargirl season 2. The executive producer teased that there's a cool storyline coming up for the character. The character was left alive in the first season and he will have a significant role in the next installment.

Grundy is a towering zombie and a member of the Injustice Society of America. He appears in the series through CGI. Beyond this, we could see Shade in the second installment, as well. He was mentioned at the end of the season 1 finale and his arrival has been hinted already.

Moreover, Starman could play a larger role in Stargirl season 2, considering the cliffhanger in the previous installment. The series opened a lot of stories and possibilities throughout season 1. Fans could see a lot of big moments, actions, and unexpected twists and turns moving forward.

As for the release date, nothing is confirmed at the moment. But, previously, Bassinger told Collider that they're going to start shooting in 2021. The cast and crew need to comply with certain health guidelines first before going back to work. Because of the delay, viewers could expect the premiere at a later date.

Stargirl season 2 may premiere in either late 2021 or early 2022.
