A popular leaker sent out tweets that the "AirPods Studio" will contain the U1 chip to add more features to the rumored personal audio device.

In a series of tweets early Sunday, popular leaker "L0vetodream" revealed tiny bits of information about the Apple "AirPods Studio," the Cupertino-based tech giant's rumored personal audio device. The tweets focused on the premium headphones' use of the "U1" chip, already utilized by the company for its Ultra Wideband communications. The technology allows spatially-aware functionality like iPhone 11 AirDrop's improved device detection.

The tweets appear to indicate that the "U1" will make the Apple "AirPods Studio" capable of determining how users wear the personal audio device. The first in a succession of tweets that the "L0vetodream" account sent out simply read "u1 for studio," indicating the personal audio device will use the chip, most likely for Ultra-Wideband communications technology.

A second tweet, this time in Chinese characters, means "The Internet of Everything starts with u1," citing the broader form of the "Internet of Things" where common devices communicate with one another. The third and longer tweet which is also in Chinese revealed the "L0vetodream" account predicted a couple of months ago about Apple making "U1" an important part of its general ecosystem, intending to use it in determining direction and distance. For the Apple "AirPods Studio," rumors say its use of "U1" will allow the premium personal audio device to "automatically recognize the left and right positioning of the headset."

The "U1" chip provides a sense of how users wear the personal audio device. This functionality opens up several areas involving design and usability. Accurately determining if the headband is on another position or at the top of the head allows for the headphones to consider the rotation when creating gesture-based touch controls on the Apple "AirPods Studio" earcups.

Instant recognition of how users wear their headphones means you no longer need to determine which Apple "AirPods Studio" earcup goes to which ear. Determining which ear is used with a particular earcup allows the personal audio device to shift the audio channels in the opposite direction, meaning the right channel is always on the right ear and the left channel to the left ear.

While Apple fans and observers consider "L0vetodream" a dependable leaker, there is no guarantee that the account's leaks regarding the Apple "AirPods Studio" and the product's supposed use of the "U1" chip to give it more features is 100% accurate and correct, that is, until the Cupertino-based tech giant actually unveils them to the public. For now, rumors are rife that the "AirPods Studio" will have many of the features of the current AirPods and AirPods Pro lines, which include its Active Noise Cancellation system. On September 16, a video leak, said to be that of the rumored Apple "AirPods Studio," revealed a rendering of a headphone with wide headbands and square-ish earcups.
