It's no secret that The Matrix 4 is one of the most mysterious new films that people have been wondering about for some time now. After all, the highly anticipated sequel has added several new cast members but never revealed the roles they would play.

Not surprisingly, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is being very secretive about who he will be playing in the Keanu Reeves movie. However, the Aquaman star chose to open up about how he ended up being cast in the cyberpunk flick and it all started with an unusual audition with director Lana Wachowski.

There is little doubt that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is currently on a roll. People started noticing the actor after his portrayal of David Kane aka Black Manta in Aquaman, a role that he is set to reprise in the sequel.

In addition to that, Abdul-Mateen has been cast in the lead role of the Candyman reboot and recently won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie for his performance in Watchmen. However, there is little doubt that fans are most curious about his role in The Matrix 4.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's recent win for playing Cal Abar in Watchmen was enough to gain some attention for the actor, who was quickly interviewed by Collider. Not surprisingly, most of the conversation veered towards The Matrix 4, the project that Abdul-Mateen was careful when discussing. Interestingly, he chose to reveal how director Lana Wachowski approached him about signing on for the sequel.

"My first meeting with Lana wasn't even really an audition. It was just that it was a meeting about getting to know me, and getting to know her, and our histories, and how I am as an actor. Lana was interested in creating a family before she was interested in creating a cast. I was very fortunate enough to be welcomed into that family. To be over in Berlin with that team, making something special is definitely something that I'm proud to say I'm a part of," Abdul-Mateen said.

It's great to know that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II passed Lana Wachowski's vibe test and ended up with a coveted role in the fourth Matrix movie. Interestingly, he also shared his initial reaction when he read the script for the film.

"My reaction to the script [was], 'Wow, people are really gonna like this. I like this. People are really gonna like this,'" Abdul-Mateen II said . "It's different and it's the same, you know, at the same time. So it's a really, really very intelligent blend of what we want and what we may not know that we want."

Yahya Abdul-Mateen will join Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in The Matrix 4, which is currently scheduled for release on April 1, 2022.
