AMD Big Navi GPUs could be faster than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 based on several reports and a recent firmware listing leaking the specs of the much-awaited cards.

The firmware listing of the AMD Big Navi was shared on Reddit by an eagle-eyed user. The tipster discovered a listing in the Radeon Open Compute (ROC) firmware that contains the specs of the Sienna Cichlid GPU, also known as Navi 21 or Big Navi. This is anticipated to launch as the flagship of the AMD RX 6000 series.

Based on the listing, the upcoming AMD Big Navi GPU features 80 compute units and a 256-bit memory bus. If every compute unit in the RDNA 2 architecture of AMD is still equivalent to 64 Stream Processors, essentially the AMD Big Navi features 5,120 SPs.

Granting that it is accurate and considering that the GPU runs on the latest 7nm process, the upcoming flagship RDNA 2 processor could provide the levels of performance that the Nvidia RTX 3080 delivers. Earlier, AMD said that the RDNA 2 could provide 50% more performance per watt than the first-generation RDNA architecture.

It is worth mentioning that these details are unofficial and unconfirmed. As to this, it is important to take this with a pinch of salt. Meanwhile, Wccftech compiled multiple complaints users have on Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080. These issues allegedly came from different forum threads and appeared to be specific to the custom variants of the GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card. The primary issue is that the cards crash to the desktop while gaming, also known in the industry as CTD. Other Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 users reported black screens usually linked with CTDs, where the driver bugs out. So far, Nvidia or its partner AIB, has not yet issued any response on the matter.

Other users claimed that the crash happens when the GeForce RTX 3080 card surpasses the 2.0 GHz boost clocks. It is not yet clear at this point if the issue is due to the software or the extremely high clock speeds that the RTX 3080 AIB could handle. Whatever it is, it is just a matter of time that Nvidia issues a response regarding this issue.

Meanwhile, AMD is anticipated to announce its new RX 6000 GPU series on October 28.
