Meghan Markle has been a subject of criticism since the day she became a part of Prince Harry's life. The Duchess of Sussex may be used to all the attention she got when she was still a Hollywood actress, but she quickly realized that being a member of the Royal Family is completely different.

Since the Royal Family is known for avoiding controversies as much as possible, the members of the clan would most of the time ignore these issues. But Meghan Markle is no longer a working royal, which means that she is not obliged to strictly follow the protocols anymore.

Meghan Markle has vowed to be more vocal after officially stepping down from her role back in March. But the Duchess of Sussex is not just using her voice to support campaigns she is passionate about, but to defend herself from negative and unnecessary attacks as well.

On Tuesday, Meghan Markle was one of the guest speakers at Fortune's Most Powerful Women Virtual Summit. The Duchess of Sussex talked about “humane tech,” which is believed to be the main focus of her and Prince Harry’s new foundation Archewell.

The Forbes MPW Twitter account then tweeted: "Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, concludes her conversation with @ellmcgirtwith a quote from Georgia O'Keefe: 'I have already settled it for myself so flattery and criticism go down the same drain and I am quite free.’”

Meghan Markle’s choice of quote seemingly hinted that she doesn’t care about trolls. The message also seemed to convey that the Duchess of Sussex is not bothered by all the hate that she and Prince Harry have been getting since quitting royal life.

Meanwhile, one of Duchess’ biggest critics is her father. Thomas and Meghan Markle had a very public fallout, and the father-daughter duo had been vocal about how they feel towards each other.

Thomas and Meghan Markle had a very public fallout. The father-daughter duo had been vocal about how they feel towards each other, leading everyone to believe that they are not going to reconcile anytime soon.

However, things were not always unfortunate between Thomas and Meghan Markle. In fact, the pair had a close bond when the Duchess of Sussex was still young.

In an essay she wrote for Elle Magazine in 2015, Meghan Markle recalled that her parents tried hard to make sure she felt comfortable in her identity. The Duchess of Sussex’s father is Caucasian and her mother is African American, making her a biracial woman. The wife of Prince Harry had shared her personal experience of racism because of the color of her skin.

“On Christmas morning, swathed in glitter-flecked wrapping paper, there I found my Heart Family: a black mom doll, a white dad doll, and a child in each color. My dad had taken the sets apart and customized the family,” she shared.
